DIY: Monogrammed Tennis Racket

I went on my first Goodwill trip the other day with the intention to find some good craft projects. I was really excited to come out with an old school  tennis racket for $3. I recently purchased a pack of embroidery string, so I decided to create a monogram R {for Richards} on it.

Here were the tools I used. Pretend there is a pair of scissors and some E6000 glue in this picture as well.

I was having a real hard time figuring out how to create an R. I started by using a sharpie to plan out the design, but just got more confused and ended up using different pieces of string to make the shape. Before taking off the string, I marked each line with a black dot to remind myself where the strings will go back. {There is no way that this was the most efficient way of doing this. Hence, my website name: Measure Once, Cut Twice.}

This is Fifi. She couldn't handle that I had a tennis racket in my lap for so many hours instead of her.

This is what it looked like when I was done wrapping. As you could imagine, the front of it did not look too impressive with all those strings hanging off the edges.

Here is what all my string looked like when I was done. Again, not the most efficient way of doing things.

I used the E6000 glue to keep the strings down. Before gluing, I cut a lot of the strings to be really short so it was easier to hide.

And here is the final product. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. I'll probably just store it on the wall in the garage. It could be a really cute decoration in a little boy's room though!

Exciting Updates {w/ lots of words}

I am just so excited about the success my blog has had this year!! On 1/2/12 I had a measly 1796 blog views. If you turn your attention to the counter on the right side of the screen, you will see that I'm almost at 15,000 on 2/23/12. That's an 800% increase!! I'm pretty sure I had like... 8 followers when this year began. Overall, I'm just pretty darn stoked about the whole thing. I wish I could just craft and blog all day long. Maybe someday...

{P.S. I deleted BlogLovin from my site because the other day I was browsing Facebook and saw two mystery posts from my blog about the Vampire Diaries. WHAT?! I would have never done that. I immediately assumed my blog had a virus, but there was no sign of the post. Once I deleted BlogLovin, it went away. Let me know if this has happened to anyone else.

I found out today that I was the featured blog on the Mingle With Us Blog Hop hosted by Happy Go Lucky, I Heart Crafty Things, Joy in the Jumble and Keeping Up With Kristi!!

Vote for me! Ok, well actually... vote for John because his amazing craft desk project is what made me so popular. But still, click on the American Crafter picture below and scroll down to #47. Please please please click on my post {#47!} to give me more votes!

Best. Book. EVER! The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series used to be my favorite books {which I'm totally not ashamed of BTW}. Seriously though, this was a really good book and now I can't wait for the movie to come out! I downloaded the second book of the series last night called Catching Fire

P.S. If you have an iPad and find out you can't download this in iBooks, go download the Kindle App and buy it on Amazon. Genius!

DIY: Dishwasher Magnets

Does anybody else have this issue? Hate trying to remember if you ran the dishwasher? Or trying to figure out if your spouse washed them and didn't empty it?

Well, John and I have a code where a silver magnet goes on the dishwasher if they are clean and stays on the fridge if they are dirty. We always play this little trick on each other {he plays it on me more than I do on him} where we empty the dishwasher, but leave the magnet on to trick the other person into thinking they have to empty the dishwasher.

For my quick craft of the weekend, I made this card to keep on the dishwasher so we can clearly see its status.

To make this card, I cut two pieces of wrapping paper and used an adhesive rolling tape to glue them back to back. Then, I used my Silhouette to cut two identical pieces of pink paper and used the rolling tape to attach them to the wrapping paper. The card stock helped make the whole thing sturdy. FInally, I just used vinyl to make the words.

The card is double sided, so I just attach it with our existing silver magnet and we switch it back and forth as necessary!

Dreaming of Decor

I'm dreaming of buying a new house and starting over with all of our home decor.

2011 In Form Of A Book

I was so excited to find a $30 discount code for Paper Coterie at How Does She the other day! I stayed up way too late last night working on this, but it was totally worth it.

Long story short, here is our year {2011} in form of a book...

Valentine's Day ♥

I spent all night last night making this little care package for John to come home to after work today. Luckily, he was out on the road last night, so I had the house to myself {aka it is an absolute wreck right now!}.

I was really excited to make cupcakes after work yesterday. That lasted about 20 minutes until I realized maybe two boxes was one too many. Look at my pink Kitchen Aid goin' to work on that {pink} cupcake batter!

I was also really excited that I got to use my new "nut cups" from Pick Your Plum! You can't tell, but this is me attempting to show off my pink cupcakes.

While the cupcakes were baking, I got to work on John's valentines. I was so excited to discover this project over the weekend and immediately decided I needed to make my own! {I think I'm going to write a separate blog about these. I just love them so much!}

One of John's presents is that I'm going to sit through the freaking Star Wars 3D movie with him this weekend. I can't put into words how much I hate Star Wars, but I'm going to do it because I am such a great wife.

I totally stole this from someone. I have no idea where, but I'm sure this saying is pretty common. I made the card myself using fonts from in Microsoft Word.

Hmmmm... what's in the box????

I hope you all have a great Valentine's Day!
