Bye Bye GFC, Hello Bloglovin!

Follow on Bloglovin

It's finally that time. The rumors have finally come true. We've been hearing gossip for years about Google Friend Connect shutting down and on July 1st it is finally happening. Luckily I have never really put too much effort into building up my GFC count. I could imagine that this is a sad, sad day for those blogs with thousands of GFC followers.

Friday Favorites: Patriotic Crafts

Can you believe it's already July? This is the first year that I've really had the urge to put effort into decorating for the 4th of July. If you follow me on Pinterest, you have probably seen my 4th of July board grow immensely in the last few weeks.

Here are some of my favorite 4th of July crafts from the web. Make sure to click on the links and show these blogs some love!

4th of July Washi Tape Coasters

Do you ever have those moments where you desperately want to do something creative, but get total crafter's block and can't figure out what to do?
Yeah? Story of my life

Striving for Imperfection

Do you ever get overwhelmed with Pinterest and start thinking that you will never be as perfect as the people behind those amazing craft blogs? I sure do. As hard as I try, literally nothing I do comes out perfectly.  Nothing.

Friday Favorites: Globes & Maps

Globes and maps are all the rage lately. I'd even go as far as saying globes are the new chevron. Not even close to the same thing, I know, but I'm equally obsessed. I always think about taking a lunch break and searching the Goodwill near my work for a globe, but I just never get around to it. To my surprise, I pulled up to John's Grandparent's garage sale the other day and there it was. My dream globe! I've never been more obsessed with something. {ok, that's a lie}.

Here she is. Perfect condition, gold base, bright blue water. A perfect fit for our home.

Have you seen my Maps & Globes Pinterest board? Here are some of my favorite projects using globes and maps.

Fabric States Project by The Bruce Bunch

I'm definitely inspired. Now I just need to get out of this chair and do something about it!

oneHUNDREDthousand

It's official! My blog has been viewed over one hundred thousand times. To some craft bloggers, this really isn't that big of a deal {that's like their daily page views}, but to this little craft blogger it is huge

I registered my domain name www.MeasureOnce-CutTwice.com in January of 2012. Since then, I've spent hours and hours on my computer designing, writing and editing. There have been months that I didn't put any effort into this thing. There have been months where I blogged every single day {ok, that was only one month #blogeverydayinmay}. The fact that there are an average of 8,000 people looking at my little craft blog every month is baffling to me.

So, thank you. To everyone who gives even two minutes out of their day to read my blog. I'm amazed that people care enough to re-pin my projects and feature my crafts on their blogs. The best thing for me is when people find my work on Pinterest and reach out to ask me to duplicate it for them.
Amazing
I love it.
Thank you.

Last Week's Featured Posts

I had a really exciting week last week! Three of my projects were featured on some of my favorite crafting and DIY blogs. This is kind of a big deal for me because it shows that someone actually cares. That these blog posts aren't just going into a black hole. Also, my Pinterest has been booming lately and some of my projects that I posted months ago are starting to gain lots of traction. I'm loving this!

Here are the links and posts that were featured. Please visit the blogs who support me and show them some love.

The 36th Avenue put together a list of 4th of July DIY Projects last week, and my Quick & Easy 4th of July Fabric Wreath Tutorial was featured!

Not only that, but The Washi Blog featured my DIY Washi Tape Letter!

AND to top it all off... my Low Calorie Sweet Strawberry Lemonade was featured on Ginger Snap Crafts as part of her 25 Berry Recipes round up

I'm about to reach a really exciting milestone here any day now. Hopefully tomorrow. Eek! It's a HUGE deal for me. I'll share once it happens :)

Golf Party & Weekend Recap

We went to my Grandpa's 92nd birthday this weekend in San Luis Obispo. My whole family is from there, so my sister, dad, John and I go a couple of times a year. I was in charge of decorations, so I decided to go with a golf theme. I didn't go all out, but added a couple of touches that really brightened things up.

I discovered the Print & Cut feature on my Silhouette this past weekend. Seriously how have I never used this before?! Here is a closer up look of the details on the banner.

I broke out my Unique Father's Day Card project from last year to add as decor on the table.

Then downloaded some shapes on the Silhouette and cut out a ton of them to scatter around the green tablecloth as confetti. I purchased some golf tees and made some other Print & Cut images to scatter as well.

This was one of many cakes that we had that night. I added this banner to our angel food cake with frosting (my fave). I just used some Pick Your Plum paper straws, PYP twine & PYP washi tape to add some greenery to our meal.

Here is John and my grandpa by the BBQ. John turned into our family chef a couple of years ago, so he was in charge of 4 huge tri-tips, plus a huge pot of chili. As usual, he did a great job and everyone was totally impressed with his cooking skills!

I dragged my sister, cousin and John downtown for my annual shopping trip. If you've ever been to downtown SLO, then you'll know why I look forward to it every year! This was a funny shot I got of John in front of Beverly's. I realize you can't see the sign, but he was in front of the "husband drop-off area".

Here I am sitting in my uncle's new Corvette with my cousin posing alongside.

Although we were only there for 2 short days, we had a great time and I think we all agreed this was one of our most memorable parties. Lots of stories to tell after a weekend of 14 people in a room together!

Friday Favorites: Antique Furniture

Thanks to Pinterest, my new favorite thing is antique furniture. My husband is not as thrilled with this new hobby as I am. His grandparents were getting rid of some old furniture, so I was lucky enough to grab these awesome pieces:

This thing is everything I ever dreamed of. I don't even know what it's called. You can lift up the top and underneath is a record player, cassette player, radio and set of microphones. There are tube speakers underneath that sound so old school. My plan with this is to paint it a bright glossy white, then remove the top and replace it with a thick piece of glass so that you can look down into it. I'm so excited about this project, but I have a feeling it will take me a while to complete!

Mirror pictures are so awkward, don't you think? Look how amazing the shape of this mirror is! Again, my plan with this is a glossy white. I'm so excited to turn this vintage mirror into bright modern wall decor.

Ok, this is kind of a stretch, I know
However, I can't wait to hear the sweet words "you were right" when I'm done with this project. My husband really isn't thrilled with having these in our garage at all {& I don't blame him}. I'm hoping Pinterest will teach me how to upholster like a pro. Glossy white chairs with a bright modern fabric? To. die. for. Just you see.

Hopefully I'll be posting some before and after pics soon. I'm not sure that I have a choice since my husband will want his garage back sooner than later!
